The Office of Light and Letters, the non-profit organization that puts on NaNoWriMo each year has a Young Writer's Program division as well. Usually for older kids, the YWP allows for kids to create their own word count goal, and he chose 5,000 words. I made a deal with him: If he made his goal, and it was a coherent story, with a beginning, middle, and an end, then I would work with him on it to publish it. The next year, Portal Magic was published. Since then, we have collaborated on four other books. |
